nailuv Gel Nail Polish Starter Kit Review

Thursday, May 30, 2013nail a college drop out

Press Sample Admittedly, I've had this kit for awhile. I've tested it to see how well gel top coat secured embellishments (spikes specifically), general application, and removal. Wanna find out how it all went down? Of course you do! So keep reading!

Above is three cured layers of Pucker Up

I lost my application guide shortly after I finished my first gel mani ever, but luckily nailuv has the steps on their website.
Step 1:
  • Push back your cuticle using the slanted end of the cuticle stick.
  • Using the softer side of the nail file, gently buff the surface of your natural nail to remove surface shine.
  • Clean and dry your nails thoroughly.
  • It’s important that you do not have any skin, dust or dirt around the cuticle or on the nail bed in order to ensure the best adhesion.
Step 2:
  • Apply a VERY THIN coat of Bonder to your natural nail and let dry for 20 seconds.
  • Be sure to apply all the way to the cuticle area.
Step 3:
  • Roll bottle of Dual Purpose Base/Top Coat back and forth to mix but do not shake.
  • Apply a THIN coat of Dual Purpose Base/Top Coat to your nail beds.
  • Make sure to apply close to cuticle
  • Cure 60 seconds with the 2W LED lamp, four fingers first then cure the thumb separately.
  • You will see a tacky layer which is normal
Step 4:
  • Roll bottle of Gel Shade back and forth to mix but do not shake.  Apply a thin coat of your favorite Gel Shade to the nail beds.
  • Cure 90 seconds with the 2W LED lamp, four fingers first then cure the thumb separately.
  • You will see a tacky layer which is normal
  • If a darker shade is desired, repeat step 4.
Step 5:
  • Apply a thin coat of Dual Purpose Base/Top Coat to your nail beds.
  • Make sure to apply close to cuticle
  • Cure 60 seconds with the 2W LED lamp, four fingers first then cure the thumb separately.
Step 6:
Wipe tacky layer from nails using lint free wipe soaked with NaiLuv Cleanser, and admire your end results. Now go show off your glossy, high shine finish. We know you LUV it.

The starter kit I received came with the 4W LED lamp so cure time with 45 seconds per layer and Pucker Up

Eventually you'll remove your nailuv gel polish manicure so here we go!

Step 1: Using the coarse side of the nail file, lightly buff the surface of the gel nail to remove the shine.
Step 2: Soak cotton in the remover.  Place the cotton on the top of the nail and wrap with aluminum foil to keep in place.
Step 3: Check every 5 minutes.  When the gel starts to soften, use the orange wood stick to slide the soft layer of product off the nail.
Step 4: Repeat until all the product is removed, adding more acetone to cotton if needed.

Gel nails are designed to last up to two weeks without chipping or smudges. For someone like myself who changes their polish ever few days, Two weeks is a lot longer than needed. However, if you're anything like me and feel like your toes are too far away and you hate painting them, this is ideal! With warm sandal weather vastly approaching, I'll be looking into more colors to wear on my toes.

I know, I know, I know what your thinking. With so many steps involved this seems hella time consuming. I swear it isn't and removing it took literally took me five minutes and my nail bed were intact!

I should also mention my last spike mani I used this with were held in place quite nicely.

nailuv Gel Polish Starter Kit retails for $125 at nailuvpolish.com.

Are you lazy like me and hate painting your toes? Decided gel polish pedicures are in your immediate future? Let me know!
Tune in. Drop out. Love polish.
