Sinful Colors Dream On Comparison

Nothing To Disclose
Time for another comparison post folks. This round I'm hunting for a dupe I actually really want, the original Sinful Colors Dream On.

Girly Bits Hip Hoop Hurray | Orly Risky Behavior | Sinful Colors Dream On (original)
Zoya Charisma | Sinful Colors Dream On (new) | Color Club Mrs. Robinson

Awhile back I realized my bottle of Dream On was running low. I went to rite aid, walked over to the Sinful Colors display, looked at Dream On and thought something was off, but bought it anyway.

The new Dream On (#113) is on the left, the original Dream On (#80) is on the Right.
As you can see, what used to be a matte drying, neon magenta isn't even close to what it used to be. *sad face* So I had to dig thru my stash to see if anything I owned measured up to an old favorite.

L-R Zoya Charimsa, Sinful Colors Dream On (new), Sinful Colors Dream On (original), Girly Bits Hip Hoop Hurray

Nothing in this group can be considered a dupe. Moving on to the next.

L-R Color Club Mrs. Robinson, Sinful Colors Dream On (original), Orly Risky Behavior

This batch is a wee bit closer, with Color Club Mrs. Robinson being the closest in comparison.
Overall there weren't any dead on dupes in my stash for these shades so I'll just have to keep obsessively buying nail polish looking.

Also, I did reach out for feedback on IG and Facebook on which shades might be a match.  A few people suggested Zoya Charisma as a dupe.

Zoya Charisma and Sinful Colors Dream On (new) are actually pretty close in real life to the naked eye. It's only my camera that exaggerates the difference between the two.

  1. The original and the new Dream On aren't even close. That's so unfortunate that they changed the color like that but kept the name. Here's to hoping you find your dupe.

  5. I hate when they change shades but keep the same name. It's such a bummer and the Original is really pretty too!

  6. Yeah, I'm not a fan that they did away with the old one. I'm gonna keep hunting for a dupe though.

  7. I've had a bottle of the "new" Dream On for maybe 3-4 years....is it really new? Mine used to be a magenta ish purple with a neon matte finish. It actually changed into a coral orange after about a year. Last year I bought another Dream On to replace it and it was also a purplish magenta neon. Both bottles were #113. I'm wondering if it's more a case of using the same name for two different colors and not really a case of old vs new.

  8. It's definitely old vs new. The old one I got about five years ago (#80) and the new one I bought a year or two ago (#113). So far neither of mine have faded.

  9. Also, there may be two versions of #113 but so far I've only come across the one.

  10. Oh wow! I didn't even realize that the current one was a new formula! If I happen to ever run into the old formula, I would be happy to send it to you!

Oof. It's frustrating when they go and change things. We'd all come up with different names for new polishes for free if they asked us!

  12. I can't believe how much they have changed the colour but kept the name the same?! I do prefer the newer one though lol

  13. Wow, they changed the look a lot! Thanks for the comparison!

  14. Hmmmmm I like them all but I think I still like the original, thanks for the comparison!

  17. Ugghh it's so frustrating when brands do this, it can't be that difficult to come up with a new name! I hope you find a replacement soon :)

  18. I hate when brands do this! Do they not understand their customers at all?

  19. Boo hiss! I definitely prefer the original to the new version! I only just learned Sinful Colors has been doing this; I don't know why they can't come up with a new name! I'm afraid I don't have any suggestions for a colour that might be a dupe though. Hopefully you can find an acceptable replacement!

  20. I don't undersrtand why polish companies do this! Why not just give the new color a new name? I'm sorry you didn't find a dupe!

  21. Ugh! Why do brands keep releasing different colours under previous names? Is it so hard to give a new shade a new name? Drives me batty!

I've had Dream On for years, now only to find out it wasn't the original formula. I wonder how long ago they reformulated it. That's nuts!

I hate it when brands make things so confusing! I loved your comparison post though, thanks for doing it!

  24. Thanks for doing the comparison! I'm on the hunt for the original formula now, I feel so incomplete without it.

  25. my old Dream On doesn't look like either of yours.

  26. Wow, that's a drastic change!

  27. Great comparison post! I get so annoyed when companies reformulate their product but call it by the same name when they differ so much in color/finish! Just call it something else!

  30. thank you. i really like both colors, i just wish they would've changed the name along with the color.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Yeah I'm not a fan of the change in formula. But I'm glad my post can be useful tool to other people looking for the same color.

    ReplyDelete
  32. Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed this post. I'm right there with on the annoyance w/ companies reformulating products and keeping the name.

    ReplyDelete
  33. reformulations sucks. please feel free to comments again if you happen to think of any dupes.

  34. the new version and charisma are very very very close in real life. for whatever reason, my camera exaggerates the difference between the two.

  35. Yes, by all the polish! Oops, just buy Mrs. Robinson. LOL

    ReplyDelete
  36. really? maybe there is a dreaded third color running around. can you reply with a picture comment of it?

  37. I saw it on ebay a few months back and the seller wanted $8. I almost bought and then I realized I'd be paying $8 plus shipping for one bottle of Sinful Colors nail polish.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I completely agreed w/ you sentiment on brands making things confusing. Glad you enjoyed my post though! =)

    ReplyDelete
  39. I'm not even sure. I bought the original about five years ago, and the new one about a year or two ago. So somewhere in that time frame it was changed. Sorry I couldn't give a better estimate.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Yes, it definitely is! I have quite a few different colors from different brands with multiple formulas.

    ReplyDelete
  41. I don't get it either. I'm thinking about emailing SC to see what their response may be and if they plan on changing it back.

    ReplyDelete
  42. That's such a drastic change. Why not just change the name all together! Love the comparison post none the less.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Nope. At least not the hardcore polish fandom.

  44. Glad you enjoyed the post. I'm thinking about emailing SC just to see what hey might say. You know, provided I actually get a response at all. LOL

  45. Glad you enjoy them. I plan on doing a few comparison posts, provided I can find the rest of my swatch sticks.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I like them both also, I just wish it wasn't so hard to find an exact dupe. Glad you enjoyed the post though! =)

    ReplyDelete
  47. LOL. Well it would be nice if they would respond.
